About Surrogacy in Georgia.
Our surrogacy program in Georgia is directly and closely supervised by us. The program is open to straight married or de facto couples. The surrogate is permitted to be compensated provided there is a properly executed Gestational Carrier Agreement. The contract needs to be signed before a local notary.
We have team members on the ground in Tbilisi enabling us to provide a total solution – recruitment, screening and management of surrogates, all medical services, including prenatal check-ups, births and paediatric services, in-country legal services and administration and coordination of travel and accommodation. Our all-inclusive package will make your journey less stressful. Our program offers an affordable price at an almost fixed cost. One of our programs can guarantee you a healthy baby.
In most cases our clinic doctors will recommend transferring only 1 embryo at a time however, subject to the surrogate being medically and physically capable of carrying twins, and consenting to carry twins, the clinic will transfer 2 embryos if you request it. Our program basic egg donor package includes up to 4 embryo transfers and 2 surrogates, if necessary to achieve a pregnancy. Our guaranteed baby package includes unlimited egg donor cycles and unlimited changes of surrogate as necessary to achieve a live, healthy birth. In order to qualify for that package you must let us select the egg donors and the surrogates. Once you have joined the program and completed all documentation, the first embryo transfer could happen within a month.
All women applying to be a gestational carrier are rigorously screened to assess their psychological, uterine and basic overall health. The surrogates need to have at least one child and the age range varies from 19-35. We offer egg donor, BYO embryos and own cycle surrogacy programs. We can provide you with egg donors or you can use your own externally sourced egg donor.
IPs will complete a profile and biography and a FaceTime or Skype video conference will be held with our clinic medical staff before they are matched with a surrogate. The medical and other staff will ask questions regarding your needs and requirements and explain the different medical, legal and administrative aspects of the surrogacy process. Following these conferences the IPs will need to complete a significant number of documents. We will assist you in completing those documents, some of which must be signed before a Public Notary and apostilled by your Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In Georgia, by law, surrogates are limited to a maximum of 3 embryo transfers so if you need to have a 4th embryo transfer it will be to a different surrogate.
Once you have approved your proposed surrogate, an embryo transfer will happen within a month, approximately, because we have surrogates screened and ready to be matched with IPs. Twelve days after the transfer, a blood test will be carried out to determine whether or not the surrogate is pregnant. In case of a negative test result, we will continue to transfer embryos by repeating the process with the same or a new surrogate, depending on medical advice.
When pregnancy is achieved, the our medical team will monitor the progress of the surrogate and keep you updated every step of the way. There is no need for you to fly over to Georgia to check up on the progress of the pregnancy. We take care of everything for you. However, some clients have chosen to travel to Tbilisi to meet with their pregnant surrogate and if you want we can facilitate that. We will update you regularly, all test results and scans will be sent to you and we will organize video-conferences with the surrogate with a translator. If you do travel to visit your surrogate you will be welcomed by our local team members.
The surrogates are not permitted to work during the pregnancy and will be compensated during their time off. They will spend their time at home surrounded by their family. The medical team and nurses will have contact with each surrogate at least once a week. All surrogates live close to the hospital. If closer monitoring is required, we will offer them an apartment for them to be closer to the medical facilities. The surrogates undertake regular, at least monthly, pre-natal check-ups involving blood and urine testing, ultra-sounds, psychological and general medical and welfare checks.
When the day of delivery has arrived, we will try to make sure you are there. We will notify you about the expected delivery date and coordinate your arrival. It is important to know that deliveries cannot be calculated with 100% certainty. If the doctor has scheduled a caesarean delivery then you will know exactly when the baby will be delivered. We will have a driver collect you from the airport and take you to your accommodation and thereafter drive you between the accommodation and hospital as required.
After the birth of your child, we will provide you with an apartment for 5 days to allow you time to be with your baby and find longer term accommodation. This will allow you to adapt to your new status as a parent. As long as you remain in Georgia we will ensure you are being taken care of and offer you any assistance we can.
If you are requiring an egg donor, the total services necessary to create your embryos are provided by Global Surrogacy. As of May 2018 we now have a bank of Asian Egg Donors who can travel to Georgia, or indeed any of our surrogacy destinations.
The egg donors go through an extensive medical screening. They will be tested for STDs, genetic conditions, immuno-hematology and haematology. They will also be questioned about family medical history, education, specific talents and interests. Most donors are aged between 19 and 32. The information that will be available to you is the following: eye and hair colour, height, weight, age, blood type and Rh factor. The donor may disclose additional information such as work experience, interests and talents and educational background. Based on their profile, you will be able to make an informed decision and find the most suitable donor. You start the process by completing a “Donor Characteristics Form” so that we can offer you suitable egg donor profiles to consider.
Throughout your journey, all communication with us will be responded to within 24 hours. We will provide you with Whatsapp, FaceTime and Skype communication options at the critical phases of your journey. Due to time differences in an international program we endeavour to have someone available somewhere in the world to address your concerns around the clock. We will be project managers for your journey.
All invoices will be issued by Global Surrogacy Inc. and are payable in EUR, USD, AUD or CAD. If you want to pay in a currency other that that shown on your invoice we will give you an exchange rate valid for 24hours. You will make the payment by international bank transfer and send us a copy of the remittance advice. All of our invoices have payment terms of 7 days. It is important to remember that we are talking about a human life (your baby) and the medical, psychological and personal care of your surrogate mother. We are incurring expenses to support your child and surrogate mother daily so it is important to pay your invoices on time.
At around month 7 of the pregnancy we will start talking to you about your travel plans and we will prepare all documents necessary for your Child’s citizenship and passport applications and prepare documents necessary for you to establish your parentage – both in Georgia and your own country. Your surrogate will receive local legal advice for this stage and these documents.
Immediately after the birth of your child we will assist you in obtaining your child’s birth certificate and application for DNA testing. You will be given detailed and complete instructions on how to prepare all documentation and the steps you must take. We will assist you by liaising with your local diplomatic post where possible.
Generally, Passport applications must be lodged in person by the IPs at their local diplomatic mission. Not all countries have a diplomatic mission in Tbilisi so it may be necessary to travel to a neighbouring country (eg: Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, Israel) to complete this process. Different embassies have different timelines and priorities in dealing with passport applications. We will liaise with local lawyers in your jurisdiction to hand-over any documents or evidence necessary for you to complete your parentage process.

I have spent the past 3 weeks in Europe visiting our clinics, lawyers and surrogates in Georgia and Ukraine and assisting some clients who recently had babies. A positive outcome from the visits is that we can now offer in 2019 a hybrid Georgia/Russia program for single men/women or same sex couples which is €20,000 […]
I am currently in Istanbul, Turkey on my way to both Tbilisi, Georgia and Kyiv, Ukraine to visit our partner clinics and also assist clients who recently welcomed twins into their family. I just finished reading an online ABC report on Ukraine surrogacy which was the usual judgmental and somewhat negative take on international surrogacy. […]

An overview of Surrogacy Laws in Georgia
Since 1992 surrogacy has been legal in Georgia for straight married and straight de facto couples. Article 143b of the Law of Georgia on Healthcare explicitly allows surrogacy “when a woman does not have an uterus, by transferring the embryo obtained as a result of fertilisation to the uterus of another women.” The embryo may contain genetic material from one or both of the intended parents but this is not a must, unlike the Ukraine, where at least one of the IP`s needs to demonstrate a genetic link to the child.
The written consent of the couple is obligatory. The surrogate mother will not have any parental rights with regard to the child. In contrast to other countries consent of the surrogate mother is not required for registration of the birth certificate. However, the IPs will need to provide a signed surrogacy agreement between them and the surrogate, a certificate of embryo transfer into the uterus of the surrogate mother issued by the IVF clinic and a certificate of childbirth issued by the hospital.
Straight married couples and straight de facto couples can legally enter into a Gestational Carrier Agreement using their own gametes or totally donated gametes.
Georgian law is clear in providing that the gestational carrier has no parental rights over the child and there is no ability for her to change her mind.
The IPs embassy responsible for all citizenship applications made for children born in Georgia may be outside of Georgia.
The Child must be able to acquire citizenship of its Intended Parents because Georgian citizenship will NOT be acquired.
